Auburn’s secondary should be among the SEC’s best in 2021.
New defensive backs coach Zac Etheridge has been harping on communication and improving football IQ throughout fall camp according to Roger McCreary, who spoke to the media on Wednesday.
Here’s what McCreary had to say about his new coach.
“One thing that I feel like Coach Etheridge has been doing that’s different from last year is working with (the defensive backs) on football IQ,” McCreary said. “It’s the main thing that’s he’s been drilling into our heads. When we come to meetings, we have to ask questions. With me, I’m not a guy that talks that much, so he’s been trying to press me on being more vocal and being the leader of the group by talking more. And He’s helped me improve in that, just talking more. It helps (the defense) recognize the offense, which relates back to football IQ. With (Etheridge) being an Auburn man, he knows Auburn as well as my past coaches, so i feel like we have a strong connection because he actually played here. It’s great that he’s coaching (the defensive backs).”
